Mathematicians and statisticians attempt to model real
world phenomenon using different approaches. Mathematicians typically use
deterministic models such as differential equations approaches that can model
very complex systems however typically ignore uncertainties. Statistical
models are typically data driven and have difficulties modeling very complex
systems. The goal of this talk is to present various lines of research
that integrate both deterministic and statistical models. These are presented using interesting real world
examples.

主講人簡介：Edward Boone博士是弗吉尼亞聯(lián)邦大學(xué)統(tǒng)計(jì)科學(xué)與運(yùn)籌學(xué)系的副教授。他主要的研究興趣包括：貝葉斯統(tǒng)計(jì)、層次模型、缺失數(shù)據(jù)、模型選擇、不確定性的量化以及統(tǒng)計(jì)學(xué)在生態(tài)和醫(yī)療健康中的應(yīng)用，發(fā)表雜志論文超過30篇。Boone博士是Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation，Transactions on Modelling and Computer Simulation，Computational Statistics and Data Analysis等多本雜志的評(píng)閱人，曾擔(dān)任多個(gè)重要的國際學(xué)術(shù)會(huì)議的程序委員會(huì)主席。
